Gem and I – Runt

One disadvantage of a distributed team is not being able to learn as effectively from each other. We miss out on the serendipitous learning that happens just by walking by each other’s computers or by striking up random conversations around the water cooler. To combat this, we’ve started an informal brown bag presentation session on Fridays, tentatively called “Gem and I”. As you can guess from the name, the idea is to introduce a lesser known Ruby gem to the team and encourage learning from each other.

About three weeks ago, I decided to give a presentation on Runt, a gem I’ve been using to implement recurring calendar events. The team seemed to like it enough that I thought others out there may appreciate a quick intro to Runt as well.
